From Chicago soil to Illinois fields

Our founder's journey began at the tender age of five, planting vegetables alongside their father in a small Chicago garden, along a chain link fence. This early connection to the earth ignited a lifelong passion, fostering a deep appreciation for the miracle of growth – watching a tiny seed transform into a beautiful flower or a vital source of sustenance. That same wonder and dedication continues to blossom here at Sunset Ridge Farm in Wauconda, Illinois.

Now, with over 40 years of experience and Master Gardener training in Illinois, Arizona and Wisconsin we are taking "gardening" to a whole new level. It's a way of life.

University of Illinois Extension promotes sustainable gardening through native planting, water conservation (rain barrels, rain gardens), composting, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Key practices include reducing chemical use, building healthy soil, utilizing cover crops, and replacing lawn with biodiversity-supporting native plants to create resilient, ecological, and productive landscapes.
